How to catch silver fish

06/04/12- The fishing was very hard yesterday at Wood Lane fisheries. Unfortunately the peg I drew wasn't fishing well at the moment and the conditions on the day were awful. I had heavy wind in my face which made it hard getting a good presentation on the pellet waggler and pole. I decided to fish the method feeder but also having a few casts over the top with the wag. I managed 3 carp and 1 Chub throughout the match, but in the last hour I went on the pole line and caught a skimmer every put in. The carp and chub went 6lb 4oz on the scales and skimmers went 16lb! So I managed 22lb 4oz for a section 3rd but should have fished for the skimmers all day and could have possibly won the match.

/04/12- Recently I have managed to sell my Daiwa Tournament Pro seat box so I now have enough money to fish a few opens matches. I have one tomorrow and another on Saturday up Wood Lane Fisheries which I am really looking forward to. I will let you know how I get on tomorrow.

All in all it has been a great weekend, I managed a lake 2nd and 6th overall today and a PB carp yesterday (video of the session can be found here). The match fished very hard, I decided to spend most of my time sitting on the method feeder, which resulted in 1 carp half way through the session. But it was clear to see that they were not feeding, so I spent the last hour and a half on the pole. I fished light carp rigs, hoping for another bonus fish on expander pellet over micros, but instead.... I managed to catch a few roach. Nearly everyone on the lake fished for silvers, and were struggling for bites, so I was very surprised to be catching them on small pellet. I realised that everyone else were feeding maggot and groundbait, and the fish obviously wanted the pellet instead today. I weighed in 4lb 12oz, which was made up of that 1 carp and the other half all roach. This was enough for 2nd on lake and £15 pools money, the lake winner had 6lb 2oz fishing similar to me in a sunny corner where the roach tend to be shoaled. One more bonus fish would have put me 1st on my pool. I learnt a lot today and realised how pellets can be more successful for silvers than other baits such as maggot or pinkie.

I managed to get out fishing today, it was an awesome session and I managed a new PB Carp which weighed 15lb 7oz. I also had a 2lb bream, 2lb crucian and 5 other carp around 6lb. I have lots of photo's of the day so will try and upload a few of them along with an article in Dan's Angling Diary. Also keep a look out on my YouTube channel as I am currently uploading a video of the session. I'm also fishing tomorrow as I said earlier last week, so lets try and top this weekend off with a match win!

I have Just started preparing for my club match this Sunday. I can't wait to meet up with a few mates which I have not seen for a long time, it will be nice to have a catch up and hopefully getting a few fish as well. I'm going to try fish simple on the match, my main plan for both lakes is to fish pole and pellet for smaller fish and also chucking the method out every so often looking for a couple of bonus carp. I will try to get a few photo's and hopefully post them with an article.

It was a great session yesterday, although the fishing was very hard as we expected. I managed to get 4 bites which resulted in 3 Bream and a nice carp which unfortunately came off at the net. Barry had an awesome day and managed 15 bream and 1 tench whilst his Dad, Terry, struggled as well catching a Tench and Carp on the other side of him. The fish were very tightly grouped in Barry's peg which made it very hard to catch any fish. I learnt a lot today so it was definitely worth going out. Full article will be up later today.

I'm fishing a club lake tomorrow with a couple of very good anglers, so I will hopefully pick up a few tips. I fish with them a lot and it's always a good laugh so I'm really looking forward to it, despite the cold weather and hard fishing. If we start catching a few fish I'll try and do a video, but the lake is always a challenge even in the summer. I'm going to be fishing the pole long with pellet and light rigs hoping for a couple of carp or even a bonus bream, but my main attack is the method feeder as far out as I can comfortably cast. I will let you know how the session goes and as usual, there will be a full report soon in Dan's Angling Diary.

Me and Connor managed to go fishing today at Wood Lane Fisheries, it was very hard and we had to work for every bite. At least we didn't have to break the ice thanks to the mild weather we have had over the past few days. It took an hour to get our first bite but after that we managed to pick a few fish out. Full article coming soon in Dan's Angling Diary.

Me and Dad were hoping to go fishing today despite the freezing cold conditions. We got up early in the morning and drove to a local club lake with our ice breaker prepared. This was the top of a sledge hammer with a metre of chain attached to 10m of rope. The sledge hammer weighs about 3lb which we thought would be more than enough to break through, but how wrong could we have been. When we arrived at the lake, we noticed how thick the ice actually was, we threw the ice breaker out about 20 times and it immediately bounced on top of the ice every time. We couldn't even break it by stomping our feet in the margins, the ice must have been 4 inches thick! We decided to give this session a miss. On the way back, we took a look at a few stretches of the River Thames and found a couple of nice pegs to fish in the summer, so this made it worth going out. The river conditions were awful, the edges were frozen and the water was low and clearer than ever, so we didn't want to waste our time fishing here.
I'm hoping to go fishing Wednesday (15/02/12) with my mate Connor Beresford (Connor's website) as he is coming round for a couple of days. If we do get out we will probably go up Wood Lane and hopefully catch a couple of roach and skimmers on the pole. I have made a heavier ice breaker ready for if we do go out, because I can't see the ice clearing this quickly. I will keep you posted on what is happening.
